Good afternoon, everyone. It is a true honor to celebrate 100 years of the McAllen-Hidalgo International Bridge. A century of excellence, partnership, and progress.
A bridge represents a promise. A promise that people can come together despite differences. A promise that commerce can create prosperity. A promise that families can stay connected. A promise that cultures can enrich one another.
Today, we live in a time where conversations often focus on division. We hear about border walls, deportation, separation. We hear debates about who belongs and who doesn't.
Those conversations are real and they matter. But as we gather here today, our bridge reminds us of another truth: history is not shaped by the walls we build, but by the bridges we choose to cross together.
Every day, students cross a bridge pursuing education. Workers cross seeking opportunities. Families cross to embrace loved ones. Businesses cross to create jobs and strengthen both economies. Every crossing tells the story of hope.
The McAllen-Hidalgo International Bridge has been an economic engine, a cultural landmark, and a symbol of friendship between two nations that continue to prove that we're stronger together.
As we celebrate this first century, let us also commit ourselves to the next one. Let us continue investing in infrastructure, in trade, in public safety, in innovation, and above all, in the relationships that have made this region one of the most dynamic places in North America.
Congratulations on 100 years of excellence. May the McAllen-Hidalgo International Bridge continue to stand as an inspiration of partnership, prosperity, and hope for the next century.
Thank you. God bless the students of Hidalgo-McAllen. God bless our friends in Mexico, and God bless the United States of America.
Hidalgo Mayor Sergio Coronado made the above remarks at a City of McAllen event that celebrated the 100th anniversary of the McAllen-Hidalgo International Bridge.
