DHR Health's Level 1 Trauma Center will host a special event to celebrate the lives of six individuals whose lives were saved after sustaining traumatic injuries. Former patients, their families, and trauma center staff will come together to share their stories and enjoy a lunch in each other's company. The media is invited to cover this heartwarming occasion, with opportunities for interviews with trauma survivors, physicians, nurses, and other members of the trauma center team.
In 2021, DHR Health proudly became the first hospital in the Rio Grande Valley to achieve Level 1 Trauma Center status. This prestigious accreditation was earned with the goal of delivering advanced medical care locally, improving patient outcomes during trauma emergencies, and reducing the need to transfer patients to distant cities like San Antonio.
Thanks to the Level 1 Trauma Center, patients throughout the Rio Grande valley have access to world-class, specialized trauma care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.
The Level 1 Trauma Center provides expert care from trauma surgeons, emergency and other specialized physicians, as well as critical care teams, all supported by cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic technology. DHR Health is especially proud that its Trauma Center team has made a significant impact on survival rates by ensuring prompt and intensive care for severe injuries and complex cases.
As a regional hub, DHR Health’s Level Trauma Center collaborates with other hospitals and emergency services across the area, ensuring rapid treatment and extending vital care to underserved communities. Beyond patient care, the Level 1 Trauma Center plays a key role in medical research, education, community outreach, and advancing trauma treatment. It also strengthens disaster preparedness for large-scale emergencies.
