BROWNSVILLE, Texas - Joseph Lucio, nephew of former state Sen. Eddie Lucio, Jr., is running for Cameron County Commissioner, Precinct 2.
He is challenging incumbent commissioner Joey Lopez in the Democratic Party primary. Lopez has held the seat since 2019.
At a recent State of the County event hosted by the Greater Chamber of Harlingen, Lopez said he was particularly proud of the county's work on establishing new and better county parks. Click here to listen to and read the story.
Lucio says he is running to offer a "fresh voice" for accountability and community. "I believe our county should do better. Precinct 2 alone manages over $1 million in roads and bridges funding, yet most residents never see how those dollars are spent."
Lucio was born and raised in Cameron County. He said he is raising his family here, too.
"I belive in fairness, hard work, and a government that shows up, listens, and delivers," he said.
