PHARR, Texas - Omar Rodriguez is director of grants and government relations for the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley.

Rodriguez recently gave an in-depth interview with the Rio Grande Guardian about the lack of SNAP funding coming down from Washington.

SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The federal program provides monthly benefits for low-income households to help them buy groceries.

In his interview with the Guardian, Rodriguez said SNAP is good for the whole economy, not just low-income families.

"People's eyes kind of widen when I talk about the economic impact, because of the impact of the SNAP dollars coming back to our community. They support a lot of jobs, and they support a lot of companies," Rodriguez said.
