BROWNSVILLE, Texas - For the latest in its RGV Connect series, the Rio Grande Valley Partnership focused on water.
It held its RGV Connect Water Forum at Texas Southmost College Performing Arts Center.
The panel discussion featured Hidalgo County Commissioner David Fuentes, Brian Jones of the Texas Farm Bureau, Bryan Martinez, a City of Brownsville Commissioner, and Marilyn D. Gilbert, CEO of the Brownsville Public Utilities Board. The conversation was moderated by Colin McDonald of the Texas Water Foundation.
The local spotlight was given by TSC President Jesus Rodriguez.
"Water is one of the most critical issues facing the Rio Grande Valley today," said RGVP President and CEO Paco Sanchez. "This event brought together leaders across sectors to discuss challenges, solutions, and collaborative strategies that will shape our regio's future."'
Sanchez said he was pleased with what he heard. "There was insightful discussion on water policy, supply, and sustainability. We heard perspectives from government, agriculture, and utilities. And the focus was on regional collaboration and actionable solutions."

Asked what comes next, RGVP's Sanchez said: "This conversation is just the beginning. Addressing the Valley's water challenges requires continued collaboration, informed advocacy, and a unified regional voice. I encourage attendees to stay engaged, connect with leaders, and take part in upcoming opportunities to advance solutions to ensure our region is representated in critical conversations at the state and local level."
