MCALLEN, Texas - McAllen City Commissioner Victor ‘Seby’ Haddad has announced candidacy for Texas House District 41.

The seat is currently held by state Rep. R.D. ‘Bobby’ Guerra but the veteran lawmaker has said he will not be seeking re-election.

“The most meaningful conversations happen at home, where families talk about work, their children’s future, and how to move forward together. As City Commissioner, my focus has been on strengthening our community through steady improvements to infrastructure, encouraging responsible growth, and supporting local businesses,” Haddad said.

“My time in the business community showed me how much can be achieved when we stay focused on creating opportunities that last. I’m proud to announce my candidacy for Texas House District 41 because I believe our community deserves a strong and steady voice in Austin.

I want to bring the same practical approach we use here at home to the state level, always putting working families and local businesses first. I would be grateful for your trust and support. Together, we can continue building a future of opportunity for the Valley. Thank you.”

Haddad praised Guerra.

“Bobby Guerra has been a friend, a mentor, and a true example of what it means to serve with heart. Over the years I have seen the way he carries himself, always steady, always working to bring people together. He never chased the spotlight, but his impact is everywhere in our community,” Haddad said.

“Public service is not easy. It takes long days, sacrifice, and the willingness to listen when it would be easier to walk away. Bobby did that with grace. He gave so much of himself for the people he represented, and he leaves behind a legacy of leadership rooted in respect and love for the Valley.

“Thank you Bobby for everything you have done and for showing us how service should be done. Wishing you and your family the best in this new chapter.”
