Cuellar pledges to support South Texas builders over ICE raids at construction sites

PHARR, Texas - U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar and leaders with the South Texas Builders Association met at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen in Pharr to discuss the current ICE raids at construction sites across the Rio Grande Valley.  

The builders wanted Congressman Cuellar to know about the negative impact the raids are having on their industry and the Valley economy in general. They said the raids are creating labor shortages and project delays. Even U.S. citizens are being rounded up at the construction sites, the builders said.

Cuellar said the STBA is a key organization in the region’s construction and development industries. He said he wants to set up a meeting in Washington, D.C., for the group, so they can voice their concerns to officials with the Department of Homeland Security.
