Dear Readers,
It has been my duty, honor, and privilege to serve as Mayor for the past five years, and I am proud to report that our city is strong, progressing, and serving our residents better than ever.
Over the past year we have seen new businesses open, industries expand, and neighborhoods and public spaces revitalized, bringing renewed energy to our community. Families are putting down roots, entrepreneurs are turning ideas into reality, and visitors from across the region are discovering all that McAllen has to offer.
Our strategic location along the United States-Mexico border remains a key advantage, connecting markets, driving international commerce, and positioning McAllen as a critical link in North American trade. Strong consumer and investor confidence continues to attract businesses and global brands, further elevating the city's status as a destination for commerce, culture, and lifestyle.
What sets McAllen apart is not only economic strength, but the quality of life we share. Our parks, cultural events, libraries, and community spaces create meaningful experiences for families and future generations.
The City of McAllen values learning, sustainability, wellness, and connection, as is evident with the opening of Camp McAllen, new neighborhood parks, the McAllen Public Library, and Quinta Mazatlan's Center for Urban Ecology. Investments in environmental stewardship, recycling, and public spaces reflect a community committed to long-term responsibility.
Higher education across the Rio Grande Valley continues to shape our future, including: McAllen ISD advancing its mission of "developing educated human capital" with Texas Honor Roll recognition; South Texas College surpassing 100,000 certificates and degrees as the nation's leading Hispanic-serving institution; Texas A&M University expanding health education and workforce pathways through new investments; a state funded diabetes initiative; and, a Nursing Education and Research Building preparing more than 100 nurses each year.
Welcome to McAllen, where life is vibrant, opportunities thrive, and the best chapters are still ahead. Next is Now!
Sincerely,
Javier Villalobos
