MISSION, Texas — Texas Transportation Commissioner Alex Meade will serve as the keynote speaker at an upcoming regional Infrastructure Summit hosted by the Rio Grande Valley Partnership, highlighting state-level leadership and regional transportation priorities as the 90th Texas Legislative Session approaches.
The luncheon event will take place on October 20 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Mission Event Center.
Speaking in a recent interview, RGVP Chief Executive Officer Paco Sanchez emphasized the importance of bringing key decision-makers directly to South Texas to discuss critical transportation corridors, trade infrastructure, and regional mobility.
"Transportation and infrastructure are the backbone of our business community here in the Valley, and it's one of the real big linchpins of the Partnership," Sanchez said. "We really wanted to highlight that and bring state leadership directly here to the Rio Grande Valley."
Meade, a Rio Grande Valley native, will deliver opening remarks before joining a expert panel discussion on regional infrastructure and transportation strategy.
The summit will also feature:
Sanchez noted that the region's influence in Austin has grown significantly following the merger of the local Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) into a unified Rio Grande Valley MPO, making it vital for community leaders to present a cohesive message on transportation needs.
The Infrastructure Summit is part of a broader push by the RGVP to finalize its regional legislative agenda ahead of the upcoming legislative session in Austin.
In addition to transportation, the Partnership is preparing policy priorities covering higher education, K-12 education, healthcare, and economic development. The organization will present these priorities during its annual legislative events, including the Legislative Tour in January 2027 and RGV Days at the Capitol in February 2027.
Registration for the Infrastructure Summit is open to the public through the Rio Grande Valley Partnership’s official social media channels and online registration portals.
